Chapel of Love and Recombinant Caves

Published 1984 and 1988

Multiple interactive computer artworks are contained in this one session. This is a video recording of Philip Sanders going through the interactive menus from "Chapel of Love and Recombinant Caves," while digitizing the composite video signal (regularly sent to a CRT display monitor) directly into an AJA IO using a 10-bit uncompressed file format. These works were originally programmed in either Apple DOS or PRODOS. Some things you choose in the menus are the same every time but others are programmed to produce different images, haikus or messages using random number generators available in the programming languages. The dates are for the completion of each entire interactive piece but individual elements with the interactive pieces were created as early as 1980. These artworks were originally exhibited at RYO Gallery, New York University's Alternate Media Center and New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program.
